Joint Replacement / Revisions

The joints of your body are susceptible to injury and arthritis, as well as "wear and tear" associated with aging. As weight-bearing joints, your hips and knees are the most vulnerable.

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and typically develops as people grow older. It erodes the protective cartilage that covers your joints and allows the bones to glide smoothly during motion. When this happens, the bones rub together, causing friction and pain. When non-surgical treatments no longer help to relieve your pain, you may need surgery.

The orthopaedic surgeons at Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset in Great Neck, New York are experts at joint surgery and utilize the latest surgical techniques, including:
  • Total hip and knee replacement
  • Minimally-invasive hip and knee replacement
  • Hip and knee revisions
  • Hip resurfacing
  • Partial knee resurfacing
  • Hip and knee arthroscopy
Joint Replacement, Revision and Resurfacing

Joint replacement surgery, also called arthroplasty, involves removing the damaged portion of the hip or knee and replacing it with an artificial joint that allows for pain-free movement. Learn more about total hip replacement, total knee replacementminimally-invasive hip replacement and minimally-invasive knee replacement.

Unlike traditional total hip or knee replacement, joint resurfacing does not remove the bones in the joint, but instead resurfaces the bone with smooth metal. Hip and knee resurfacing conserves bone and is a less-invasive procedure than total joint replacement. Learn more about hip resurfacing.

Hip or knee revision surgery is performed to remove a previously implanted artificial joint and replace it with a new one. Revision arthroplasty may be necessary for a number of reasons. The artificial joint may loosen, infection may develop in the joint, one of the bones around the joint may be fractured, or part of the implant may break or wear down.

Our doctors will thoroughly evaluate your condition and may perform arthroscopy to help determine which surgery or type of artificial joint is best for you.

At Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset, our goal is maximum recovery of your hip or knee function with diligent follow-up care after surgery and a total rehabilitation program to get you back to the activities you enjoy.
