Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset Brings New Thumb Joint Replacement Procedure to Long Island Patients

A group of surgeons at OAM have introduced new total joint replacement technology to the practice, designed to reduce pain and restore function for patients with thumb arthritis.

GREAT NECK, NY — September 28, 2026 – Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset (OAM) announced today that three of its hand and upper extremity surgeons, Dr. Peter Stein, Dr. David Tuckman, and Dr. Andrew Greenberg, are now performing advanced thumb joint replacement using the FDA-approved TOUCH® CMC 1 prosthesis for patients with thumb arthritis. The addition of this technology expands access to a total joint replacement approach for patients across Long Island.

Thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis is a common form of hand osteoarthritis that affects the joint at the base of the thumb, often leading to pain, weakness, and difficulty with everyday activities such as gripping objects.

The TOUCH® CMC 1 prosthesis is a ball-and-socket total joint replacement prosthesis designed to replace the damaged joint while preserving thumb movement and more closely replicating the joint’s natural biomechanics. The TOUCH® CMC 1 received FDA approval in 2025 for total CMC joint replacement in patients.
